Abstract
The specimens obtained from 10 different trees of Protium serratum were tested for their physical and mechanical properties. The strength values are compared with standard Teak. It is found that the timber is heavier than standard Teak and on an average the strength properties are almost equivalent to Teak in "green condition" and is superior to teak by about 10 percent in air-dry condition. The timber can be classified as belonging to "Super Group" for structural uses.
